1) Have you heard of an M stand? - No (followed danb's link)

2) Do you ever use M stands? - Never seen them in Briz.

3) How do you lock a bicycle to an M stand? - Probably the same as the Sheffield stand? I use a d-lock through the rear wheel and frame, with a cable looped through the front wheel onto the d-lock. Though perhaps it depends on how they are oriented to each other (I would presume to lock up alongside the stand?). The stands themselves do look more flexible with regards to locking position.

4) Your favourite – M stand or Sheffield stand? - To be honest I am not super fussed: the frustrations with the Sheffield stands comes not from their design so much as their placement (e.g. to close to each other).

5) Would you use M stands if they were installed in Bristol? - Yes.

1. yes although limited

2. dont think i have ever spotted a m stand in bristol (?)

3. not sure how you lock your bike to a m stand but i would guess; d-lock through rear wheel and frame + chain for font wheel and frame again

4. m stands will make it harder to cut through locks that are attacked to the toptube and make riders use better locking positions (rear wheel and frame)

5. yes if located properly

1) I have now !

2) Nope, but would if it was available - looks better/easier to use

3) I would use the normal method as already mentioned, and they look easier to have a bike on each side that the sheffield ones

4) th e M sstand looks ot offer more flexibility that can only be good

5) yes, if situated conveniently

1) Yes

2) No, there aren't any in Bristol?

3) Two locks, one on front wheel, frame and stand and the second on back wheel, frame and stand. Sheffield stands are often too long to allow this and I end up just locking the back wheel to the frame instead of to the frame, wheel and stand.

4) M Stand. Also allows for more ways to lock up a bike that has a child seat on (which can be very awkward). Better for locking two bikes (one on either side) to, as there often isn't space to stand the two bikes parallel to each other as bars / saddles etc clash.

5) Yes

1) Nope - just had to google it - i presume its one of these: http://www.ypl-streetfurniture...../catId-23/ ?

2) No - as above - never seen one before

3) d-lock through frame, rear wheel and stand + front wheel to stand with second lock if I am going to leave it for a while

4) Only ever used Sheffield or railings/ other street furniture before but looks like it should be easier to lock rear wheel and frame together than the Sheffield ones

5) Yes - more bike parking would be great - that is assuming that these will be in addition to rather than replacement of the current Sheffield stands?
