I've finally been converted to using SPD pedals; but like the idea of have one side platform to pop to the shops, having only the one bike. Can anyone recommend a brand??

I was thinking of these: http://bit.ly/aMKC0v

Thanks

Those are good if a little bulky, if you want to go for something a bit more lightweight and blingier then try A520s/A530s.

have one of each – SPD on the drive side (right) and flat/platform on the left. means you get to wear a different shoe on each foot. i think that's the set-up whatfriends rides.

worth pointing out that the A520s don't have a flat side – you've got the spd with a platform around it on one side, and just basically the axle on the other.  you definitely want the A530 – i run that on my (geared) commuting/pub bike.  only downside is that the platform side is kinda slippy in the wet.

tried the a530 on my fixed gear bike and didn't like it at all – my cranks are too long (175) and the platform grounds out easily … so i run standard m520 spds which stick out less.

and in any case you wouldn't really want to be using the platform side on a fixed gear anyway…..
