"Biggest" so they tell us at council towers. all good though as many head for it now.

Anyway. who up for joining me and Si Steele and His brother Marcus at 9am for the Clevedon Challenge ride – 38 miles I think.

be good if we can get a clan of fixed tearing thru the masses. Portway closed off which is good fun too.

starts at 9am from millenium square.

We're doing a Bike Project group ride. Not sure which one yet. I'd choose Clevedon but we need to check who's coming along and abilities etc.

Last time I did the Clevedon route I missed a few signs and went past the airport 3 times. Made the 38 mile route more like 55.

Portway is fun when there's no vehicles and noise. Lovely and smooth. Quite surreal having a picnic at the side of the road and hearing birds.

Anyone know if it's possible to ride the portway before the official family ride and then do another? I did the family ride last year and it's the only time I've ever seen congestion caused by bikes. That and the bit of string down the middle of the road to keep the toddlers from straying into the oncoming traffic still doing 30+ on the other side of Hotwells road was a bit crazy.

i know what you mean adam!

its only a bit of string keeping us all in on the right hand side of hotwells road. i ended up cycling on pavement near grain barge. rebel rebel.

good to see we have a clan already. keep em coming fellas.

lets make it 30+ riders!!!

absolutely loads of people/kids do it now so all a bit surreal to see that many bikes in bristol on a sun morning.

I'll be riding with our school group (starts from school & then splits up along the Portway according to ability!) may be riding a Clunker, but will shout at fixed riders. Probably doing the Failand version with Isaac.

It's the one day of the year that Dads can get away with going for a ride without making sure it's written on 3 calendars and in 2 diaries and countersigned by the Pope 2 months in advance to get permission, which then gets forgotten and treated with a response of shock when you mention it a few days before.

Last year my partner even came along on the ride with me and she hadn't ridden a bike for 15 years before that. I thought it was a bit odd until she pointed out at the end of the day she wouldn't have come along if it hadn't been fathers day.

It's either that or you get in free at the zoo.

time to meet is 830am.

bit early for a sunday but the ride does start at 9am.

(Ed i saw you this am 840 bottom of park street. you were on a bike.so was i)

Tim,

It says on the website we have to register on the day, do we really? don't fancy a massive Q

I've done it before without registering. Just means you don't get the ride routes booklet and emergency contact number sticker pack etc. I think it's mainly for their liability insurance so they can give you safety info / advice and disclaimers in the pack. Advance registering online is to help them guesstimate the amount of stewards they'll need and to have attendance figures to show off after the event.

Also registered easily on the day last year and didn't have to queue.

Of course they might have changed it all this year and be checking as you set off, but can't imagine that'd be very practical with the amount of people… very unlikely.
